Set of 2 linen towels with hand embroidered initials "AP"

Set of two beautiful, yet simple vintage towels in hand-woven hemp, with nicely hand-embroidered initials "AP". Ground color of the cloth and the (wonderfully tied!) fringes at both ends are in the same warm, unbleached natural ecru.

One with red embroidered initials and fine finishing at both ends, the other with blue details and slightly different, more elaborate finishing.

The size is: 95 x 70 cm; both are in excellent state, little used, just one very vague yellowish spot on the red one, see pictured.

This wonderful fabric quality is old-fashioned course hemp (will become softer and lighter when washed) and can be used for all kinds of purposes or decoration: curtain, cushioncover, tablerunner or as towel as it was meant to be. Italian countryside, estimated 1940's, woven-in-house on a handloom. 

All the vintage textiles I have sourced with love over the years are checked thoroughly by me for flaws and stains and described to my knowledge. Age and heritage location are mostly unknown and had to be estimated. These are all one of a kind vintage textiles in natural yarns, mostly hand-woven on household looms, often come with hand-embroideries and are sometimes in unused, new state (from dead stock for instance) and sometimes used, but always in a good state.  Irregularities in thread, embroidery, fringes etc. are part of the caracteristics of these items (for instance neps in the yarns) and cannot be considered as flaws. If there are any visable and noticible spots, stains or flaws they are described and photographed as best as possible, of which I keep the pictures. So the state in which the items are packed and send, is the state documented here and cannot be the reason to send items back. Although off course I am always willing to find a solution when an item is somehow disappointing.  

These unique items are made with a whole lot of love in bygone era's and are gradually becoming more and more rare to find. They are made of natural fibres like linen or hemp and cotton, the quality of which is equally rare nowadays. Because these are vintage items they are ALWAYS sustainable and make for a perfectly conscious gift for all kinds of occasions, also for yourself....
